GET UP AND OUT AND LET'S MOVE ABOUT!
P.E.
We are enjoying our P.E. lessons this year. It's a little different with no coaches in our school but we are having great fun! We recently bought new gymnastic mats and our pupils had great fun showcasing their skills. We were very lucky to have been chosen for the 'Cycle Right Training', where we learned important cycling skills and how to keep safe on the road. This year we our Active Schools Committee encouraged us to go on more school walks, keeping us all active.
Squat Challenge
In May we held our Squat Challenge to see who could do the most squats in one minute. The competition was tight but in the end a 6th class student took the win with 61 squats!
We predict sore legs tomorrow 😜

Active Schools Week 2021
Our Active Schools committee have been busy organising the first of two Sports Days to ensure that all our pupils are fit and healthy. We decided to kick off our ASW with our first sports day of the year.
School Walks
The Active Schools Committee are encouraging both classes to embrace the Athletics strand and get moving! With the year that's in it, we will go on weekly walks getting lots of fresh air and keeping fit regardless of the Irish weather! We launched our Active Schools Walkway upon our return in May and are keen to use it this year above all other years!
Run a day challenge
In March and April we undertook a run a day challenge with the Junior room and the 'Running around Europe' with the Senior room. Each day both classes 'got up and out' and went running on our pitch. This did not prove to be too popular on rainy days with the senior room but we enjoyed getting out of the classroom and keeping active.
Active School's Committee 2020 - 2021
Our Active School's committee were selected today from both the Junior and Senior room. We are delighted to announce the committee members are Katelyn, Carah and Ryan. They already have lots of ideas to keep us fit and healthy this year. This year we feel it is more important than ever to keep fit and healthy. Our Motto is "Get up and out and let's move about".
The most popular club in Cloonfour N.S. is...
It was no surprise to us it was GAA. Our school has a strong link with St. Barry's GAA in Tarmonbarry and over 50 % of our school pay GAA starting from Junior Infants and right up to 6th class. There was also students who are members of Irish dancing school in Leitrim, Soccer, gymnastics and karate in Longford and our local scouts club in Tarmonbarry.
Siege of Ennis
We learned lots of Irish steps in PE. This was key to our fantastic Siege of Ennis for seachtain na Gaeilge in March. Great fun for everyone!
Physical Activity
With the year that's in it, we are trying to keep as acticve as we can, We decided to tie our Green Schools and Actice School aims together and go on a litter picking day. We collected so much rubbish on the roadside and were keeping active at the same time!
Even when it's raining, we are very active in our hall. The active schools committee keep everyone moving and motivated!
Partnership
This year we were delighted to welcome Roscommon Sports Partnership to our school for the cycle right training. We were lucky to have been selected for the training and had great fun cycling.
We linked with Longford and Roscommon GAA and DCU P.E. department during our school closure to assist in the teaching of P.E. virtually .Their coaches had uploaded various lessons demonstrating gymnastic activities, fundamental movement skills and Games skills. It was important to ensure P.E. and keeping active was prioritised during the lockdown.

Unfotuantely this year we did not have coaches come into our school due to our COVID 19 restrictions however, our BOM alllowed our outside Cycle Right Training to go ahead this term. This important life skill and the rules of the road were learned and great fun was had too!
